INSIGHT
Search, social, creators, DOOH and retail media rarely work in isolation. A practical measurement system needs shared outcomes, consistent tracking and realistic attribution.

Modern campaigns rarely fail because there is no data. They fail because every channel reports a different version of success.
Search reports conversions, social reports attributed actions, creators report engagement, DOOH reports reach, retail media reports shopper metrics, and the CRM reports actual opportunities. The job of cross-channel measurement is to connect those views without pretending one attribution model can explain everything.
Before choosing metrics, define the commercial objective: qualified enquiries, ecommerce revenue, store visits, category sales, registrations or another meaningful outcome.
Channel KPIs should then explain how each part of the plan contributes to that outcome.
Awareness channels often influence behaviour before a direct conversion can be observed. Branded search, engaged visits, store traffic and consideration signals can be useful leading indicators. Sales and qualified leads are lagging outcomes.
GA4 works best when event names mean the same thing across the site. Define events such as generate_lead, purchase, book_demo or store_locator before campaigns launch.
Use UTMs consistently and connect important web outcomes to the CRM where possible.
Last-click is useful operationally but often undervalues channels that create demand. Someone may see DOOH, watch a creator, search the brand two days later and finally convert through a direct visit.
Use attribution as one view, not the truth.
Geo tests, holdout groups, campaign-on/campaign-off comparisons and matched-market tests can provide stronger evidence than platform attribution, particularly for DOOH, retail and brand media.
Direct clicks may understate influence. Use unique landing pages, promo codes, enquiry-source questions, branded search movement and sales feedback alongside platform metrics.
A useful dashboard should answer: What changed? Why? What should we do next? If a report contains twenty metrics but no decision, it is not a measurement system.
Measurement becomes especially important as New Zealand media expands across search, video, programmatic DOOH and retail media.
